Supporting South Lanarkshire Galas

June signals gala month in South Lanarkshire and the team at Ian Brown Funeral Directors has played an integral role in the celebrations.

With everyone in Lanark given a day off and pubs opening at 7am for Lanimers Day, the community comes out in force to enjoy the events. For longer than they can count, the Brown family has been involved voluntarily organising and participating in the nearly 900-year-old Lanimers festival – and 2019 was no exception.

As lead vehicles in the Queen’s Procession, Ian Brown Jr and Funeral Service Operative Tam Duncan rode limousines all around Lanark behind magnificent floats and acts put on by community groups, schools and nurseries to boast their year’s work for the community.

Funeral Director Shannon Maxwell-Doyle said: “We were all thrilled when Ian Jr and Linda’s son, also Ian, bagged the coveted Silver Bell first prize for overall best float with his drama group’s Mary Poppins themed display.”

The team followed up Lanimers by driving the Carluke Gala Queen and her court around in limousines to celebrate Carluke’s Gala Day. The Carstairs Village Gala is next on the horizon, when all the team at Ian Brown Funeral Directors are heavily involved.

Local businesses work together to make community events a huge success and, during June, Ian Brown Funeral Directors also teamed up with the New Lanark Hotel, which gave a 50% discount on tea and dinner to a local carer and his wife to mark Carers Week.

Lynsey, front of house manager at the hotel, said: “It was our pleasure to work with Ian Brown Funeral Directors, we have a long-standing relationship with them. Being a local business ourselves, we know it is important to keep those ties strong by working together.”
